Porsche is developing a new entry level Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) called Macan for the D+ segment of the Indian auto industry. The car derives its name from the Indonesian term for tiger and is a part Strategy 2018, the company's plan to
develop new models. Based on the Audi Q5, it will be the fifth model in the German automobile maker's portfolio. The luxury automotive giant is aiming to lure the youth of the nation to its showroom with this upcoming model.
It is said that the car maker will develop this SUV at its Saxony manufacturing plant in Leipzig, Germany. The company is investing a total of 500 million Euros into the facility to expand it, including an assembly line and paint shop, making Macan one of the biggest projects undertaken by it. Production of the Macan, which was earlier named Cajun, will begin in 2013, though Porsche has also released a teaser image of the car.
